About Me - Urmi Sheldon

I was born in Northern Alberta and grew up in the Edmonton area. After graduating, I traveled outside of Canada for eight years. My journey started in Europe and continued overland through Iran and Afghanistan to India where, I spent six years. By the time I reached Greece all the questions of that era (the 1970's) began emerging, and I found myself on a journey of transformation.

I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to spend those six years in India in an environment of meditation with the spiritual master Osho. Though I have not been back to India since the death of Osho—over fifteen years ago—I still honour the tremendous influence that experience had on my life.

Returning to Canada was a huge culture shock for me. My family could not understand all that I had experienced on my travels. The next stage of my life was spent raising my twins. As every parent knows, many challenges ensue during this stage of one’s life, but the love of a child is an amazing thing.

To keep in touch with my spiritual roots I started doing holistic massage. Understanding energy and meditation has been an asset for me, and I have found myself involved on deep levels. Meditation had fostered the ability for me to live my life in the present.

Over the years since my experiences in India, I have traveled outside of Canada doing cooking contracts. It was on one of these contracts that I spent time working in Costa Rica; my experience there started a whole new love affair. When my kids left home, I returned to Costa Rica, and have been returning every year since 2001.
